The Best Flowers For Extremely Hot Conditions

Whether you are in the southern United States where these temperatures are a little more expected, or up in Canada where we simply do not know how to handle anything over 15 degrees Celsius, nobody can deny that the last few weeks have been scorching (in many parts of the world record-breaking!)

Today we have compiled a list of plants and flowers that not only manage when the mercury reaches for the skies, but actually thrive! Most of these plants are available to purchase as seedlings and saplings (more adolescent plants already on their way to greatness) and can be transplanted directly into your Cedar Planters raised garden bed, so you don’t have to worry about having missed the growing season!

1. Lavender

This beautiful purple flowering plant is actually part of the mint family and has over 47 known species! Lavender? More like Laven-Damn! Planting Lavender around your home has many benefits as well (besides being beautiful!). The calming fragrance of Lavender is known to reduce stress, headaches, and depression. The plant also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties so it’s great to have in your first aid arsenal. As far as hot temperatures go Lavender originates in The Canary Islands off of the coast of Africa so it has been known to thrive in temperatures around 86 degrees Fahrenheit, although many types of Lavender have adapted to humidity and can survive in more humid climates as well.

2.Marigold

These beautiful flowers are sure to brighten up any garden bed with their iconic orange and yellow tones, and the best part about these gorgeous blooms is that if they are regularly pruned they can keep blooming all the way into November with the right climate! Marigolds generally thrive in temperatures up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit but can absolutely survive beyond that with adequate watering!

3.Petunia

These lovely flowers originate in South America so are well accustomed to warmer temperatures! Petunias are known for their beautiful patterns and colours (almost all of which indicate that that particular plant is a hybrid!) and can bloom for two to three years in certain climates! Wow! Petunias can handle heat up to around 90 degrees Fahrenheit so they are tough little beauties!

4. Begonia

These bright beauties are one of 2000 species under the genus “Begoniaceae”, and with that many variants it is no surprise that many of them have become quite tolerant of a variety of weather conditions! Begonia’s come in a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes so you are certain to find a variety that suits your personal garden-style! Begonia’s enjoy hot climates and can sadly be damaged by temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit so make sure to keep your Begonia’s toasty warm!

5. Hibiscus

When one thinks of “tropical” flowers the most likely to spring to mind is the beautiful blooming Hibiscus. The yellow hibiscus is actually Hawaii’s state flower so it’s no wonder we associate them with paradise! These vibrant blooms are an excellent choice to brighten up your outdoor space and to make any garden feel like you are on vacation. Hibiscus’ tend to thrive in more tropical climates with lots of sun and rain, the flowers generally prefer temperatures of around 75 degrees Fahrenheit and unfortunately cannot survive at all with temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
